The Hall is not just a Hall, it is a Palace; very true, each one of us will realise this fact and justify it that very moment when one has the first glimpse of it. The Palace-Architecture of the Hall, gives the feel of a Palace. It's also the largest Hall of Residence in AMU, divided into two different Halls - SS HALL North and SS HALL South. Both mightily standing with
pride, together constituting the epicenter of the University. The Hall is really a Palace-Build, with Huge walls and Gates even, everything that is simply an ancient Indian Palace type.

The 'more than a feet thick' walls of the Hall are more than enough to provide strong protection to the inside form everything outside, even the burning heat of the Sun ! It's designed in a way that rooms surround the Hall, keeping widespread empty space in the middle, which constitutes the beautiful relaxing lawns of the Hall. The lawns-all designed to be the best, again indeed the Royal choice. With huge trees for shadow to the fine soft grass, the grainy pathways to the showering fountains; everything is a pleasure to the heart and the eyes. And all this surrounded by a two-storey building offering huge-rooms for the students to live in, again a 'more than a feet thick walls' and several feet high roof; making the rooms really airy. The roof is so high that the fans are hung down on long supports 5-6 feet long.
The reddish outlooks of the Halls, the reddish granite is what that constitutes the walls and the exteriors of the Hall. And the Victoria Gate, the mighty gate offering entrance to the SS South, houses a huge Clock Tower. The gate is a wooden gate, thick and strong- also several feets high, so high that it is rarely opened. It houses a 'small gate' in the left part of the gate (the main gate, that is a center opening gate i.e. to doors , one at each side) which is kept open for going in and out; and this small gate is large enough!!

Every Room(it seems to be a Hall) is quite large, housing 4 students (juniors to the senior at Back-Room) and a Large Back-Room which has it's door within the room. The Back room is the residence for the Senior student (1 in a room). So in a nutshell there is Room of four junior students and a backroom for 1 Senior in every 'pack'. Both the parts of the 'pack' are again quite airy and large, with more facilities and place in the back-Room. So, the more you grow senior, the more royalty you enjoy!!
The Beauty of SS Halls is incomplete without the beautiful Masjid in its premises. The Mosque's beauty can't be described in words. You must go there and see. The eternal view of the Masjid in the Moonlight. You can't take your eyes away, you'll stick to it. This Mosque marks the Culture of the Aligarh muslim University, and it's the place where the residents of the Hall go for Namaz. The Culture, the ambience, will itself give birth to the culture in you!
The Dining halls, again an example of royal style, is a huge Hall, built in ancient royal architecture. The high roof, the vast area, and most royal - the thick Marble tables for Dining ! The Hall is alloted for residence to the students pursuing Ph.d. or Master Degree Course in Arts and Science, and other fields. There's much that can be dedicated to the hall, but words are mere words, to judge the beauty. Wait for the day and aspire to be one of the residents holding the pride of SS Halls!
